Garlic
 Picardy Wight
3215cm10cm x 25cmAllium Sativum (Softneck) - Originating in the fields of Picardy, growing on the battlefields of the Somme and the surrounding area. Adapted to cooler and wetter conditions, will grow anywhere in the UK that has proved a challenge to other garlic. In its native region it is plaited and smoked due to its longevity. Harvested after mid July it will keep to May the following year. Horticultural Group: Silverskin Origin: Picardy Cloves: 10 - 14 cloves/ bulb (estimated) Expected size: 40 - 60mm (estimated) Planted: October - March Harvested: July - August Harvest as the leaves begin to change colour - don't leave it too long or the bulbs will split and re-sprout.
Garlic
 Carcassonne Wight
3215cm10cm x 25cmCarcassonne Wight Seed (2 or 4 Bulbs) Allium Sativum var. ophioscorodon (Hardneck) - Exceptional, pink cloved hardneck garlic showing great vigour in UK climate. Most successful of all hardnecks in UK with good skin cover, great strength of flavour coupled with a superior (in our opinion) bouquet and character. This variety was probably brought to Carcassonne by pilgrims travelling from the east on their way to Compostela. Horticultural Group: Creole Origines: Languedoc south west France & Catalonia in adjoining Spain. Cloves: 8 - 12 cloves/ bulb (estimated) Expected size: 40 - 60mm (estimated) Planted: September - February Harvested: June - July Sow in modules in November and keep in cold frames. Transfer to pots if needed. Plant out in March-ish. Harvest as the leaves begin to change colour - don't leave it too long or the bulbs will split and re-sprout. Hardneck varieties like this produce coiling flower stalks (scapes) which you should remove to encourage larger bulbs. Don't wait until the flowers open. The scapes can be eaten raw or cooked.
